PRIMARY DETAIL Level A: $112,550 - $120,621 per annum, plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading Full-time, fixed-term position for three years Based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde Macquarie University is hiring for a Research Associate in Statistical Modelling. This role is open to application by statisticians or data scientists who have a strong research interest and growing reputation in statistical modelling or cognate fields with demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary and/or applied research. The successful candidate will support the research of Professor Samuel Muller, Executive Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering, and will collaborate with members of his research group which is co-directed by Dr Houying Zhu. About the role As a Research Associate in Statistical Modelling, you will play a key role in advancing high-quality research in one or more of the following areas. You will contribute to the supervision of PhD and Master of Research (MRes) students and support, and where appropriate lead, statistical consulting activities that foster collaboration across the University and with external partners. Your key responsibilities consist of: Developing model visualisation methods to enable interactive and dynamic model building. Robust selection and estimation in regression type models. Variable selection and inference for statistically challenging data, including longitudinal, clustered and correlated univariate and multivariate responses. Investigating theoretical properties of regularization methods in various asymptotic scenarios and improving these methods by learning from resampling-based stability information. Classification and improved prediction methods for multiplatform data. Devising statistical methods for the analysis of multi-layered and structured data in bioinformatics, microbiome and neuroscience applications. School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences | Macquarie Uni About You (Selection Criteria ) A PhD in Statistical Modelling or a closely related discipline in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field. Demonstrated ability to publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Ability to assist in the supervision of postgraduate research students. Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team. Experience presenting research findings at seminars, conferences, and/or other scientific meetings. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Advanced computational and programming skills, particularly in R. Demonstrated ability to attract external research funding through grant applications and/or contribute to funded collaborative research projects with internal and external partners. (Desirable) Research experience in statistical modelling for high-dimensional and complex data, including areas such as variable selection, Bayesian methods, or related methodologies. (Desirable) Experience in developing statistical software, reproducible research workflows, or opensource research tools.
