Research Associate in CELL and MOLECULAR BIOLOGY of PLANTS § 28 Subsection 1 HmbHG Institution Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Biology Salary level EGR. 13 TV-L Start date 01.10.2026, fixed for a period of three years. (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]). Application deadline 31.08.2026 Scope of work part-time Weekly hours 65 % of standard work hours per week Your responsibilities Research associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate’s own academic work. As part of the research activities, molecular mechanisms of new functions of peroxisomes are to be investigated in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and in microalgae both bioinformatically and experimentally, for example, peroxisome-mediated defense mechanisms against bacterial and viral pathogens and evolutionary processes. The mechanisms are to be elucidated using various methods such as modeling, expression analysis (real-time PCR), confocal microscopy, protein-protein interaction and proteome analyses, reverse genetics, and structural biology. The tasks also include participation in teaching within the department to the extent of 2.6 LVS. Your profile A university degree in a relevant field. Experience in working with Arabidopsis, transient and stable gene expression in plants, and the production and analysis of recombinant proteins; desirable are above-average interest and basic knowledge in molecular biology, applied bioinformatics, protein chemistry, microscopy, and molecular genetics.
