Job Description

The University of Newcastle seeks a Senior Full Stack Developer/DevOps Engineer to provide technical leadership in cloud platforms, application development, and integration. Key responsibilities include designing and building modern AWS solutions, developing cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. Key Responsibilities

  • You’ll work across a broad range of technical activities, including:
  • Design, develop and operate modern solutions on AWS.
  • Build and support backend, integration and web applications.
  • Develop cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and automation.
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
  • Build and integrate services using technologies such as API Gateway, AppSync, Lambda, ECS and SQS.
  • Develop modern front-end applications using React and contemporary web technologies.
  • Implement monitoring, observability, alerting and operational support practices.
  • Diagnose complex technical issues and contribute to the ongoing evolution of University technology platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers and promote effective software engineering and DevOps practices.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and delivery teams to understand problems, develop practical solutions and achieve delivery outcomes.

Requirements

  • You’re a senior software engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working across development, cloud and operations. You will also have experience leading and managing a small technical team, including mentoring and developing engineers
  • You’ll bring strong experience in AWS, software engineering and DevOps, along with the ability to take ownership of solutions from design through to deployment and ongoing support.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, cloud-native development, integration services and modern web development will be valuable.
  • We’re not expecting you to be an expert in every technology listed — if you bring strong experience across most of these areas and the ability to learn and adapt, we’d like to hear from you.
